How old are the Moroccan women
who are really looking
for marriage?
This is what an analysis of 915 applications received by DAR TISLIT in France shows: women of Moroccan descent, French and Belgian citizens living in Europe. The applicants' real ages overturn the cliché of the “young 25-year-old bride-to-be”. The study was carried out in France, where DAR TISLIT has been supporting couples since 2026. We share it here because many of these patterns are familiar in Moroccan communities elsewhere, including the UK, the US and Canada.
The average age of applicants is 37.3, with profiles ranging from 18 to well over 50. The largest group is aged 40 and over (41% of applicants), ahead of those aged 35-39 and 25-29.
What the figures really show
Of the 915 women's applications analysed in France, the breakdown by age group is as follows:
The 40-and-over group on its own is larger than any other. That is far from the picture painted by some online content, which suggests that looking for a serious marriage is something only very young women do.

Several explanations come up again and again in interviews at DAR TISLIT.
A life path chosen on purpose. Many applicants put their studies, career or personal stability first before turning fully to the search for a partner. It is an increasingly common choice, not a delay that needs justifying.
A fair set of standards. With age and experience often comes greater clarity about what really matters in a relationship. These women know exactly what they are looking for, which makes their search more focused, not less serious.
A new chapter after divorce. Some applicants begin a new search after a first marriage. Our article on remarrying after divorce looks at this in depth.
No suitable setting. Without a large extended family nearby, or tired of dating apps, many applicants over 35 simply had not found a serious setting that fit what they were looking for.
Age has nothing to do with how serious the commitment is
Across all age groups the data is unambiguous: 73% of applicants state a clear intention to marry, and 79% want to marry within a year of applying (45% within 6 to 12 months, 35% within 6 months).
These figures do not vary significantly with age. A 24-year-old and a 45-year-old applicant share, in the vast majority of cases, the same clarity of intent and the same wish to move forward seriously.

Knowing the real age of applicants changes the picture, both for women who hesitate to start out for fear of being “too old” and for men who wrongly assume that serious searching is only for young profiles.
At DAR TISLIT, every application is assessed on real compatibility (values, personality, outlook on marriage) rather than on a number. To understand what applicants are really looking for, our study of what Moroccan women expect from a husband adds another angle.
