Moroccan man, 35 and single: is it too late to get married?
You are 35, of Moroccan origin, living in the UK, the US, Canada or elsewhere, and at every family gathering the same question comes back: "So, when are you getting married?" Between family pressure, studies, work and the distance from relatives in Morocco, many men start to wonder whether it is already too late. Here is what the applications analysed by DAR TISLIT actually show.
No, a Moroccan man of 35 is not late to marry. According to an analysis of 388 applications from men received by DAR TISLIT in France, the median age is 37 and 48% of candidates are between 35 and 49. These figures come from France, not from English-speaking countries, but the reality of the diaspora is similar: at 35 you are right in the middle of people looking for a serious marriage. What matters is a clear plan, availability and openness.

The feeling of being "behind" mostly comes from other people's eyes. In many families the model of the previous generation, who married very young, is still the reference. But life in the diaspora has changed: studies, a first stable job, emigration or living far from parents and, sometimes, a first marriage that did not last all push back the moment of settling down.
This gap is not only about men. Among women too, the real age of candidates is higher than most people imagine: we detail it in the age of Moroccan women seeking marriage. Marrying at 35, 38 or 42 is no longer unusual.
What is the real age of marriage candidates? DAR TISLIT's figures
According to an analysis of 388 applications from men received by DAR TISLIT in France, the median age is 37. In other words, half of the candidates are 37 or older. A 35-year-old sits slightly below the middle of the distribution, not above it. Remember that these figures come from applications received in France and Belgium: they do not describe your country, but they give a solid reference point for Moroccans of the diaspora.
The last figure matters for a man of 35: more than half of the women who come to us are themselves between 35 and 49. The people you are most likely to build a shared project with are, for the most part, at a stage of life close to yours. The 35-39 and 40-44 age bands each make up around 18% of male candidates.

What 35 really changes: situation, maturity, family expectations
At 35 the frame is not the same as at 25, and it is often an advantage.
- A clearer situation. Job, home, driving licence: according to an analysis of 209 candidates who completed the full questionnaire in France, 87% hold a driving licence and 78% have a car. Families pay attention to this.
- A life already lived. In the same sample, 56% of candidates are single and 32% divorced. At 35, having had a first marriage is not an obstacle in itself.
- A steady religious practice. 75% say they pray regularly and 12% occasionally. At this age faith is no longer a veneer but an anchor.
- More concrete family expectations. Parents no longer ask "when?" but "with whom?". That is a better starting point for an honest conversation.
When your family stayed in Morocco, distance adds another layer: you seek the approval of parents you rarely see, over a video call. Planning that conversation early avoids many misunderstandings.
Are faith and family essential criteria for you? DAR TISLIT will take them into account as soon as we open in your country: let us keep you posted.

If age is not the problem, what really delays marriage? From the applications received in France, three points keep coming back.
A list of criteria that is too long
The older we get, the better we know what we do not want, and the list can become a wall. It helps to separate what is essential (values, family plans, religious practice) from what is secondary.
Limited openness
According to an analysis of 206 candidates, 43% say they are open to marrying a divorced woman, 18% answer "maybe" and 29% say no. On children, 25% are open to a woman who already has some, 14% "maybe" and 61% no. These choices are legitimate, but they mechanically reduce the number of possible meetings, while many women of 35 and over already have a past.
Distance
34% of candidates only want someone close to home, 30% are open within their country and 19% have no preference. The narrower the radius, the smaller the choice: widening your search area a little is often the simplest lever.
How to approach a serious search at 35
Here is what helps, based on our experience of interviews:
- Clarify your plan: in what timeframe, what family life, where to live. Being able to answer simply is already a sign of seriousness.
- Choose the framework: friends and family, apps or an agency, each route has its limits. We compare them in matchmaking agency or dating app.
- Involve the family at the right time, neither too early nor too late, with respect.
- Accept a realistic pace: a serious match takes time.
At 35 you do not have fewer chances to build a home: you simply have less time to waste.
DAR TISLIT is for people of Moroccan origin; that is the condition of the service. Each profile is reviewed confidentially. For the formalities of marrying in your country, check with your local city hall or registry office and the Moroccan consulate.
