The Moroccan marriage
barometer 2026
Who are the women and men of Moroccan heritage who want to marry today? How old are they, what place does faith hold, how soon do they want to commit, and how open are they? This barometer answers with real data: the 1,323 applications received by DAR TISLIT in France, where the service started, analysed in aggregate and anonymously. These are not figures for the UK, the US or Canada, but many Moroccan families there will recognise themselves in them. Figures are recalculated on the 1st of every month; these date from 1 November 2026.
Based on 1,323 applications received in France from people of Moroccan origin (946 women, 377 men): the median age is 37 for women and 37 for men; 79.3% of women applicants want to marry within a year; religion is the first criterion mentioned by women (48.3%) and by men (32.8%), far ahead of looks (9.1% of men); and 79.5% of women applicants are open to a Moroccan man from any region.
Method: where these figures come from
DAR TISLIT is a private, marriage-focused introduction service for people of Moroccan origin. Every application is read by a person. This barometer is based on all 1,323 applications received as of 1 November 2026: 946 from women and 377 from men, most of them living in France and Belgium. 696 women and 201 men also completed a detailed questionnaire (situation, values, expectations, life plans).
- Multiple-choice questions: percentage of the people who answered the question (the number of answers is always given).
- Open questions (“What are you looking for in a man?”…): share of answers that mention an idea, identified by keywords and synonyms. One answer can mention several ideas, so percentages do not add up to 100.
- Updates: figures are recalculated automatically on the 1st of every month, across all applications received since launch.
- Privacy: aggregated, anonymous data, no recognisable profile, no group of fewer than 10 people published.
- Limitation: these people chose a serious path to marriage and live mainly in France and Belgium. They do not represent the whole Moroccan diaspora or your country, but precisely those who want to marry.
Age: the search for a spouse doesn't stop at 30
The median age is 37 for women and 37 for men (average age: 37.2 and 36.9). Among women, the largest age group is 35-39, and 40.9% are 40 or older. Among men, the largest group is 40-44, and 39.8% are 40 or older.
Women (946 applicants)
Men (377 applicants)
We look at this in detail in the real age of Moroccan women looking for a serious marriage and the age Moroccan men look for.
Origins and languages: all of Morocco, and living languages
Agadir is the city of origin most often mentioned by women applicants (9.3%), and Agadir by men (12.2%). Among women it is followed by Casablanca (4.8%), Meknès (4.7%), Oujda (4.1%), Rabat (2.7%), Marrakech (2.4%). Singles come from every region of the country.
Among men, 57.1% speak Darija fluently and 28.2% a little (177 answers). Parents' languages are passed on, even when everyday life happens in another language. See do you need to speak Tachelhit to marry a Chleuh?

Asked the open question “What are you looking for in a man?” (694 answers), women applicants first mention:
Asked “What are your most important criteria?” (198 answers), men reply:
In the multiple-choice questionnaire, religion appears in every one of the most common combinations of the “3 most important things in a marriage” chosen by women (689 answers).
Looks come far behind: Moroccan singles are first looking for someone who shares their faith and respects them.

Men's faith and lifestyle
11.7% say they pray occasionally. 86.9% have a driving licence (191 answers) and 77% have a car (200 answers), which matters when two people live in different cities. We explain how to stay halal when looking for someone to marry.
Timing: a real wish to commit, on both sides
For women (696 answers), marriage is a short-term plan:
For men (195 answers), the pace is more spread out:
In other words, 79.3% of women and 53.3% of men want to marry within a year. The gap is mostly men who are “not sure yet”: rarely a refusal to commit, more often the need to meet the right person first. The stages, from meeting to the celebration, are explained in the stages of a traditional Moroccan wedding.
Children and family
Among men, 18.8% say “maybe” and 7.4% no. Among women, 12.6% have not decided yet. The gap is real and worth raising early: it is one of the subjects that derail otherwise promising introductions. Family remains central: 40.6% of women mention it spontaneously among what they look for in a man.
Many men already have a past: 31% are divorced (200 answers) and 31.3% have at least one child (199 answers).

Regional origin matters less and less
Answers from 696 women. The idea of having to marry someone “from back home” is clearly fading among those who want to marry.
Geographical distance still matters
47.9% of women prefer someone from their own area, 26% “not necessarily” and 25% don't mind (695 answers). Among men, 33.5% only look close to home, 28.9% are open anywhere in their country, 19.3% have no preference and 7.6% are open internationally (197 answers).
Marrying a divorced woman, with or without children
Answers from 198 men. When the woman has children, the door closes further: 25% yes, 14.2% maybe, 60.8% no (176 answers). We handle these situations with care: see remarrying after divorce.
Moving back to Morocco
This question is only asked of men (200 answers): 57% are thinking of moving back to Morocco “maybe one day”, 21.5% have a concrete plan, and 9.5% do not. In total, 78.5% of men keep this return in mind: a life-plan subject to discuss before marriage.
